About Me

Mary Scherf is a writer and literacy advocate who has practiced law since 1984. She lives with her husband, Stephen, in suburban Philadelphia. Their son and his family live nearby. When she is not volunteering in the library at Gompers Elementary School in West Philadelphia, or teaching workshops for young writers at Mighty Writers, she edits a small business newsletter in the company of an aging gentleman Welsh Pembroke corgi. Her work has been anthologized in Oh, Baby! True Stories About Conception, Adoption, Surrogacy, Pregnancy, Labor and Love, published in October, 2015 by Creative Nonfiction’s In Fact Book imprint, and another essay will be included in a forthcoming issue of Hippocampus Magazine. She is completing a memoir about her experience with a failed Guatemalan adoption. Books were her best friends until she discovered the camera in her cell phone.
